From 2D and 3D assets, tutorials that will take your skills to the next level, and an active community forum that you can lean on for support, there is an endless array of resources and information Cubebrush has to offer.

With that said, we’re always looking to stay ahead of the industry’s newest innovations and trends. So we’re calling all creators. There are a few products we’re dying to see. Think you can do it?

2D Products We Want

Manga tutorials

You’ve likely come across manga before and have maybe even taken a stab at it, so you probably know that creating one requires techniques that necessitate a manga-specific tutorial. Unlike anime, manga can usually be crafted within a much smaller time frame, regardless of whether it’s done by hand or digitally.

The manga tutorials we’re hunting for would cover certain stylization tips and techniques using Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Corel Painter, Krita, or Adobe Fresco.

Matte painting tutorials

Matte painting originated from the need for realistic but complex background imagery for movies. Before it was digitized, matte paintings were typically done using acrylic or pastel. Nowadays, it’s still quite a niche skill to practice but has been streamlined by techniques like photo bashing utilizing software like Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint.

Matte painting is an incredibly complex skill to master, as it requires knowledge of multiple complex elements such as color, texture, lighting, shadow, and much more in order to construct a photorealistic image. Digital matte painting is typically used for set extensions, sky painting, concept art, and more.

Character design and illustrations

Because of the sheer demand for new and improved character design, this particular subject can never be covered by enough tutorials. There will always be another style, trend, or program that’s developed to achieve new looks.

Regardless of your tool of choice, whether it is vector-based like Illustrator or 3D character creation software that you then turn into a 2D image, character design requires specific information about anatomy and stylization, that needs to be broken down through loads of highly detailed tutorials.

Freebies

“Weekly Freebies” is a prized Cubebrush feature that offers weekly free products within the newsletter that is then sent out to over 90,000 Cubebrush subscribers.

Although it’s counterintuitive, don’t underestimate the power of free content in driving traffic to your online store. That’s why submitting your assets to be chosen for the Weekly Freebie can take you further than you might expect.

3D Products We Want

Props and architecture tutorials

There is a myriad of steps to creating complex assets such as weapons, other tools, and buildings. Although Cubebrush provides ready-made 3D assets, there is still much to be desired when it comes to processing videos or tutorials that describe the full pipeline for game-ready props and architectural structures.

Blender tutorials

From animation to artwork, virtual reality, and game development, Blender is well-known for its inexhaustible range of creative possibilities that can be achieved within a single app.

The world of CG modeling in Blender is vast, and as the open-source software releases updated versions regularly, Cubebrush is hoping to see more tutorials that focus on modeling and sculpting props or scenes, preferably in Blender v3.0+.

Advanced sculpting in Zbrush

Zbrush is a digital sculpting tool that CG artists to achieve detailed models and textures. There are a few core fundamentals to master as a Zbrush newbie, and as a result, many existing tutorials focus on those specific aspects, while not as many cover the entire process.

To balance the field, we’d like to see more tutorials that run through the complete pipeline, including texturing.

Videogame character sculpting/modeling tutorials

3D videogame characters come in all shapes and sizes, styles, and formats. And while 3D assets of characters may be available, creating your own can be enjoyable and empowering.

While there are some tutorials already out there that cover very specific stylizations, we’re looking to see more full pipeline run-throughs of videogame character development in Zbrush, Maya, and/or Blender.

Gaming

Unreal Engine 5 tutorials

Unreal Engine is known for giving CG artists the ability to work with open 3D worlds across multiple collaborators. Version 5, which was released earlier this year, gives artists the freedom to work within dynamic and real-time lighting so that they don’t have to spend the extra time light baking post-design.

Because it’s still a relatively new version, Cubebrush would like to see more tutorials that run through the creation of scenes for video games, and all the tricks and tips for creating other worlds in UE5.

Sound Design

Soundtrack tutorials

When it comes to video games and digital film creation, sometimes the audio is just as important as the visuals. And even if you don’t want to limit yourself to sound design, it’s good to know the craft of the trade, so that you can effectively communicate when you collaborate with one.

Sound design for video games can take the form of entire soundtracks or even smaller audio assets. We’re looking specifically for tutorials that run through how to create soundtracks for video games.

VFX (Visual Effects)

VFX in Unity and Unreal Engine 4 or 5 tutorials

Whether it’s for movies or video games, visual effects are an essential element of 3D CG art. With gaming engines like Unreal Engine or Unity, one of the most popular gaming engines in the world, there’s a whole world to be learned. In particular, Cubebrush is on the hunt for tutorials for visual effects creation in Unity and Unreal Engine 4 or 5.
